Apparently, 2,338 members of the
Facebook group "
I read Business 2.0 - and I want to keep reading!" were not enough. After much
speculation , Time Inc. pulled the plug yesterday on its monthly business publication. In a note to
staff Time Inc. COO John Squires indicated that the publication's assets would be folded into the
Fortune magazine family.
The big question this news raises for me -- what part did the rise of online news, blogs and citizen journalism play in the demise of a technology business magazine that appeared to weather the downward spiral of tech companies a few years back? Does anyone else find
this September 2006 cover crystal-ball worthy?
This news is only the latest publication to disappear as a result of significant media consolidation under behemoth publishing/holding companies...and it won't be the last. And like
Veronica Mars earlier this year, no amount of reader-, fan- or Facebook-love could save it.
